Richard studied the classical guitar at Trinity College of Music in London under the guitarist and composer Gilbert Biberian, and went on to study under the international concert guitarist Carlos Bonell. Richard has played in many festivals and recitals across the country, including the Warwick and Leamington Arts festival, theChester Festival, the Buxton International Opera Festival and the Leeds International Concert Series.

As well as giving solo recitals, he has also played in ensemble with many musicians including the acclaimed pianist Julius Drake and members of the Gould Piano Trio. He has performed at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in ensemble with the international mezzo-soprano Sophia Grech and pianist Melanie Spanswick.

Richard's interest in choral work has led to performances with the Choir of Gonville and Caius College Cambridge. Richard has also commissioned the English composer Geoffrey Palmer to compose a cycle of songs set to poems of Thomas Hardy written for Richard and the mezzo-soprano Sophia Grech. This work was given its first performance at the Beaminster Festival.

Geoffrey Palmer has also set four Shakespeare sonnets from The Passionate Pilgrim to music for Richard and Sophia and they gave the first performance of these at theEnglish Music Festival with a further performances in the Leicester University Recitals series, Southwark Cathedral and the Guildford International Music Festival.

Richard has also performed at the Wandsworth Arts Festival with his guitar duo partner Fiona Harrison which was shared with the internationally acclaimed guitaristEleftheria Kotzia. Richard has also played the Concerto De Aranjuez by Rodrigo at theBuckingham Summer Festival with the orchestra of the Stowe Opera under the conductor Robert Secret.

Richard has recently composed a suite of pieces for solo guitar which have incorporated blues and folk sounds.
